Hi everyone and welcome to my trading card collecting and storage website. Since I was a little kid growing up in the late ’70s and ’80s, I was always a collector at heart and in particular, baseball cards. Unfortunately, I grew up in the late ’70s and ’80s, which is otherwise known as “the junk card era” because baseball cards were mass-produced and everyone and their brother collected.
Well, fast-forward 30 yrs… I now have a job, a family, a house, etc. and still my passion for collecting has never left me. So I hope to share my story with you on this website, keep you informed of topics that I find interesting in the hobby and if you are like me, maybe spark you to get started collecting again or if you have been collecting, to help you further your collection.
A Little About My Card Collecting Life
Since I was a little kid growing up in the late ’70s and ’80s, I was always a collector at heart and in particular, baseball cards. I always said that if I was born prior to the 1980s, boy would I have a collection…but I was born in the “junk card” era where everyone and their brother collected and millions upon millions of cards were made. This essentially had two results: (1) if devalued most baseball cards from that era and (2) it disheartened baseball card collectors to the point of driving them away from the hobby entirely.
Well, baseball card manufacturers recognized this and started to make better quality cards, limited edition cards, etc. since the early to mid-’90s. Today, in my opinion, baseball card collecting is super hot and I’d like to share with you everything that I learn on this website.
I decided to get back into collected this year, 2018, as I had a desire to try my hand at creating an eBay business. Well, what could I sell? The one thing that I had in abundance was baseball cards, which was also a very convenient way to get back into the hobby as I pitched this to my wife. This endeavor has reignited my passion for collecting baseball cards. I’ve even gone to Target and Walmart to buy some new 2017 / 2018 baseball wax packs and it reignited those feelings I used to have when I was a kid…I couldn’t wait to get home to tear them open to see what I got. The only difference between now and then is now I have more money at my disposal…which could be dangerous too, so be forewarned.
Card Collecting Has Changed
Since I’ve gotten back into baseball card collecting, buying and selling, I can tell you that the hobby has changed a lot from when I was a kid. How has it changed? Well, for starters, when I was a kid, there may have been one or two or three different kinds of rookie cards. Nowadays, there may be 10 or 20 different rookie cards…and not all of them will be equally desirable.
They also make limited editions…1 of 1; 1 of 5, 1 of 10, and so on. They also make “refractors”, “chromes”, “foils”, “autographed”, “patches”, etc.
Wow, so many choices can create a lot of excitement in the hobby!
Well, my goal is to share my story about card collecting, collecting in general, and to help people stay organized with their card collecting since I am big on keeping my collections organized and in nice storage containers.
Maybe this will also reignite your curiosity to get into the hobby again as well? If you’ve never gotten away from the hobby, then there will also be stuff on here for you as well and if you also share your experiences, then I can also learn from you.
